Go to the Beach  Some of the best beaches in Europe are to be found along this stretch of coastline… the nearest is at La Barossa, but try El Palmar, Cape Trafalgar (scene of the Battle of Trafalgar), Los Canos de Meca and further south to the beaches around Punta Paloma on the way to Tarifa.  See our beaches pages.

Visit the pueblos blancos - the white hilltop towns of Vejer de la Frontera and Medina Sidonia. Wander around the little streets, take Tapas and a glass of fino, then just drink in the atmosphere.

Thought to be the oldest city in mainland Europe of Phoenician origin why not head to Cadiz. It is an easy 20 minute drive. Head all the way in to the old city and wander round its picturesque streets. Rarely mentioned in the guidebooks, it’s a great city to explore and you can discover its mercantile and naval past interwoven in its streets.

Take a drive and explore
There is some stunning scenery within easy reach. Try driving through the mountains to Alcala, El Bosque and beyond. A trip to Ubrique is a days outing but will take you to one of the highest spots in Spain with glorious views.  Ubrique has a wealth of leather goods shops.

A very different place… Visit Gibraltar for a Day
not really English but not Spanish either! Tour the rock, visit the caves, and take a cable car ride to the top.

How do you fancy a hack?  Try horse riding -
short medium or long through the Spanish countryside, Cowboy-style on one of those enormous western saddles.  20 minutes away outside Vejer you can find good horse-riding.

You can visit the Sherry Bodegas in Jerez -
Many bodegas offer tours and there are many types of sherry just waiting for you to experience.  They even put a glass of sherry and corner of cheese out each night for the mouse....

Cigüeña means stork, and if you grow tired of watching the antics of the nesting storks behind the house try Bird Spotting, you can take a tour of the wetlands near Cadiz or at La Janda near Vejer, or marvel at the eagles, vultures, kites and hawks that you can see especially if you take a short drive into the Sierras.
The Romans knew a thing or two.  Cadiz has Roman remains to discover as does Medina Sidonia, but Bolonia, 30 minutes south of Finca Cigüeña is the most surprising place. A whole Roman city; Baelo Claudio – now Bolonia - nestles in the curve of the bay. You can wander around the partly excavated ruins and explore the temples and houses and early factories of this city who’s economy was based on fish and fish by-products. When the cultural moment has past, stroll down onto the beach and maybe take in lunch at one of the little bars there.

Dinner watching the Sun go down
Some of the very best fish restaurants can be found right at the beach so you can combine some delicious food with a romantic moment as you watch the sun sink into the west over a glass of wine. Conil offers some delightful dining as shown below

Seville, Cordoba and Granada.
Three very special cities with superb Moorish architecture. Seville – the Provincial - and emotional Capital of Andalucia is the nearest of the three - just two hours away by car and easy to negotiate. Granada and Córdoba are longer treks but quite magnificent.

Visit the national home for the famous Andaluz horses at the Carthusian Horse Centre. You will find the ‘Yeguado de Hierro Bocado’ on the ‘back road’ to Jerez (between Medina and Jerez). Primarily a breeding centre, you can tour the stables, the vetinary facilities and get a chance to see some these magnificent animals put through their paces in the display arena. It’s a memorable few hours at the centre as you get an insight into sheer beauty of these creatures
